Three-time champions Nigeria left little to doubt when they
opened their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign against twice champions and
holders Mexico in Al Ain, thumping the North Americans by a whopping
6-1 scoreline.
Kelechi Iheanacho almost single handedly spelt Mexico himself scoring
four goals. Two more by Nwakali and Isaac completed the half dozen and
emphatically underlines Nigeria as one of the favourites to lift the
trophy.
Mexico meanwhile looked shell shocked and except for rare flashes in the
pan like in 41st minute where Jamies scored and punished Nigeria that
was still in celebratory mode, must now try and recover from this shell
lacking.
Up next for the impressive Nigerians is a date with Scandinavian
debutants Sweden in three days’ time, when Mexico try to get things back
on track against Iraq.
